This soft, limestone grey is peppered with slate blue, dark charcoal, bright grassy green, and peach speckles (I was inspired by the shells and pattern of the tablecloth to add the splash of color).

“My most nostalgic feelings come from the times I lived in the Burren, Ireland.
I first went there in May 2016 for a month long study abroad trip during college, for a course at the Burren College of Art. I couldn’t find many photos of the small village I was going to be living in, but from what I could see it was extremely isolated with only about 200 residents. I grew up in Los Angeles, so I was afraid of the culture shock I would probably experience. There was no grocery store, no ATM, and the walk from our house to the college was about 25 minutes on a road with no sidewalks. However, as soon as I got there, my life changed. I was immediately struck by its unique beauty. The Burren, from the Irish word “boíreann”, means “rocky place”. Like the rest of Ireland, it has rolling green hills and fields full of cows and sheep, but it is characterized by its dramatic limestone karst landscape which looks like the surface of the moon. Despite its almost barren appearance, if you look closely, it is full of life. I had never before been so moved by nature the way I was in the Burren. I felt a profound sense of peace there, and I never wanted to leave. Even after two weeks when we went to Dublin for a few days, I was disappointed, stressed out by the city, and wanted to get back to the safe little place I had just discovered. While I was there I met one of my best friends in the world, and exploring this place with her made the experience so much more special.
After the month was over and we had to leave, I was devastated, but I was determined to return. During my final year at art college, pretty much all the work I made was inspired by my time in the Burren. I graduated in 2017, and that September I went back to the Burren College of Art for a year to complete a post-graduate program. Words truly cannot express how magical that time of my life was. I saw the sunrise through my window every morning, I hiked up rocky hills by myself in the afternoon, I spent many, many nights at the pub listening to trad music sessions, I joined the village’s ukulele club, I held a newborn lamb, I helped my friend pick berries on the side of the road for her art project, I experienced a hurricane and a blizzard, I took hundreds of Polaroids, I spent Fridays visiting ancient stone structures and pagan sites, I spend Sundays having a homemade brunch with friends, I had a few weekend trips to other countries, I participated in an abortion rights march in Limerick City, I lived in a house with a dozen other people who became my family, I stared at billions of stars as I walked home at night, and towards the end of my time there, I met my future husband. That snapshot of my life was warm, sweet, joyful, wild, and beautiful. It was the only time in my life when I fully embraced everything around me and truly lived in the moment.
It’s been 6 years since my year in the Burren, and those memories are shiny and golden. I now live in a different part of Ireland with my husband, and I’ve only been back to the Burren a few times, but every time I see those rocky grey hills and that open sky, I get chills. There is no place like it.” - Thank you so much for your submission, @liannalikes2knit !💚
